Privacy Policy

Roamly is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Roamly stores the locations you mark as visited, along with any notes, photos, and memories you add. If you create an account, we store your data in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage), including your itineraries, published posts, bookmarks, and profile information. Some data is also cached locally on your device.

If you create an account, we collect the authentication information you provide. You can sign in with email and password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. When using Google or Apple Sign-In, we receive only the information those services share (typically your name and email address).

If you sign up for our mailing list or contact us, we collect your email address and any information you provide in your message.

We collect analytics and crash-reporting data about how the app is used, and subscription status if you purchase a plan. See Analytics & Crash Reporting and Subscriptions below.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to:

  • Display your 3D globe, visited locations, itineraries, and travel journal entries
  • Store and sync your data securely via Firebase
  • Enable community features such as publishing itineraries, browsing others' posts, and bookmarking
  • Generate AI trip suggestions and itineraries you ask for
  • Manage your subscription and unlock paid features
  • Understand how the app is used, and diagnose crashes and errors, so we can improve it
  • Send you updates if you subscribe to our mailing list
  • Respond to your messages if you contact us

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Firebase & Data Storage

Roamly uses Google Firebase services to store and manage your data. This includes Firebase Authentication for account management, Cloud Firestore for storing itineraries and travel data, and Firebase Storage for photos. Your data is stored securely on Google's infrastructure. We do not sell your personal data, and we share it only with the service providers described in this policy, who process it on our behalf.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

Roamly uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to find and fix problems. This includes which screens you view and which features you use (for example creating a trip, publishing a post, or opening the subscription screen), along with your device model, operating system version, app version, and an app-generated device identifier.

When you are signed in, this data is associated with your Roamly account so we can tell, for example, whether a crash affected one person repeatedly or many people once. Crashlytics also records diagnostic details when the app crashes or hits an error, which can include the state of the app at the time.

We do not use any of this for advertising. Roamly contains no advertising SDKs, does not access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because we do not track you.

AI Trip Planning

When you ask Roamly to suggest destinations or generate an itinerary, the details of that request are sent to Google Cloud's Vertex AI to produce the result. That includes the destination, dates, trip length, pace, budget, and any preferences you type in. Google processes this on our behalf as our service provider under its enterprise terms.

Please avoid typing sensitive personal information into trip planning prompts.

Subscriptions

Roamly offers a paid subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, so we never see or store your payment card details. We use Superwall to present subscription options and to tell our servers whether your subscription is active, so we can unlock paid features on your account. This means we store your subscription status and related events (such as a purchase, renewal, or expiration) against your account.

Photos & Location Data

Photos you add to journal entries and itinerary blocks are stored locally and in Firebase Storage. The places you mark as visited are used within the app to display your travel map.

If you use the "trips near me" feature, Roamly asks your permission to use your device's current location. Your coordinates are sent to our servers only to work out which destinations are close to you, and are not saved to your account afterwards. Roamly only requests location while you are using the app. We do not collect your location in the background, and the feature is entirely optional.

If you choose "Add to Calendar", Roamly writes the trip to your device's calendar. It only writes events; it does not read your existing calendar.

Community & Sharing Features

When you publish an itinerary to the Roamly community, it becomes visible to other users who can browse, bookmark, and rate it. Published itineraries include the trip details, photos, and your display name. You can unpublish an itinerary at any time.

When you share an itinerary via a link, a deep link is generated that allows the recipient to view your itinerary within the app.

Finding Friends from Your Contacts

If you choose to use the "Find Friends" feature, Roamly asks your permission to access your device's contacts. Your contacts' email addresses are converted into secure one-way hashes on your device. The raw email addresses never leave your phone or reach our servers. We compare those hashes against Roamly's members to show you which of your contacts already use Roamly.

We also store a one-way hash of your own account email address so that your contacts can find you in the same way. We do not store your contacts' email addresses, we do not sell or share your contacts, and we do not use them for advertising. You can turn off contacts access at any time in your device's Settings, and using this feature is entirely optional.

Your Choices

You can delete your account and associated data at any time from the app's settings. You can unpublish any itinerary you have shared with the community. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email. If you delete the app, locally cached data is removed from your device; account data stored in Firebase is retained until you delete your account.

Children's Privacy

Roamly is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
